Big Island Grille & Bar in Albert Lea

I'm a regular visitor to the island and let me tell you, when I want food that won't disappoint I come to BIG.We visited for a late lunch and were seated right away on a Tuesday afternoon.Clean facilities, great service, very reasonable pricing, and an all-around island spirit that makes you feel goooood.Big Island Grill, you are appreciated.

Breakfast served until 10:30 am only. Loco Moco was great breakfast alternative. Sandwiches fair to poor. Friendly service.

After eating plates all week, I didn’t think I could enjoy another. Boy was I wrong. This place was good! We shared Kalua pork and teriyaki beef combo plate, the beef was actually grilled tender steak, freaking delicious. I highly recommend the pineapple coleslaw! probably eat another Hawaiin plate before we leave!!!

Who the f are these people writing these reviews?! The food is mediocre at best. I'm giving 2 stars because the staff was nice and the food came quickly. Other than that the steak was tough, the roast pork was not good and the gravy it came in was clearly from a can. Oh the french fries were good. Good luck if you want to dine here.

This place has good food and great portion sizes. But the best part of our meal here was the service. Our server Lana Ala, (not sure if I got her name correct) was one of the best servers we have had (she was incredibly polite and cheerful). Would definitely recommend this place for a good brunch experience.

Great restaurant with very quick and good service alongside great food. Sometimes there can a wait but it's sure worth it. Make sure to get the coffee cake for dessert.

This place is great not only did I have dinner here I also had breakfast. The staff is friendly and the price was very reasonable and your glass/cup is never empty.

Food was great. Very big portions on the loco moco. Suggest splitting the meal. We went on Sunday and ita breakfast only. Kids tried spam for the first time. Overall great experience.

Good local and american breakfast, took a while to be seated when there were plenty open seats. Pictured is the super local moco with choice of three meats (bacon, portuguese sausage, corn beef hash patties in picture). Other picture is the breakfast simin. Best part is the huge portions! Always food to go.

Lunch at big island grill ! Very fresh catch of the day fish sandwich. Kalua pork and cabbage very tasty as well. Wait staff were friendly and the food came out really fast. Desserts look amazing too. We will definitely be back.

Great Loco Moco breakfast, then Teriyaki Steak dinner another day. Only disappointment was they ran out of their Thursday Oxtail Special.

Good Hawaiian food at very reasonable prices. The portions are a good size and the food tasted good. The wait staff was very friendly and service was quick. Only downside is the place is pretty busy so you'll probably have to wait 15 - 20 minutes on the weekend and the parking lot is kind of small so not easy to find parking.

Excellent value for dollar! Sesame dressing on the salad was lovelt5as was the prime Rib. Great friendly service!

Seated and order taken right away. Food came very quickly (within 15 minutes). Everyone was friendly. The food wasn’t the best though. Everything was frozen or from a can for sure.

I don’t typically leave reviews. I went expecting a cost effective meal that would probably still leave me a tad hungry; I left 20 lbs heavier. I ordered the Teryaki Plate, and took 2.5 chicken breasts as leftovers, after stuffing myself like a glutton. The seasoning/sauce was pretty awesome, it’s not the BEST on the island, but I can guarantee it’s the BEST for your money.If you’re looking to fill yourself up after a long day, this is the spot.Also, the water tastes great, unlike the majority of places I’ve been in Kona.I will definitely be back!

Big island grill was just a no frills restaurant. The food was very good and friendly service. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Friendly service and good food. I had the fish n chips and it really filled me up after a day of surfing. Really good portions for the $$. Also had a bite of the Korean chicken too and that was pretty good too.

Short ribs and fried rice were good, however, the garlic potatoes had too much salt.

We went there for lunch today. We had no issue parking our van but had to wait over 5 long minutes to be seated when there were many open tables available. Once we were finally seated we had a very good waitress and they have a good lunch menu with daily local specials. The brown rice I got was overly soft in texture I call it "mushy" but the roast pork I ordered was very tasty and tender and a large portion. I only had 2 bites of the rice but ate all the pork.

My wife and I just finished an evening at The Big Island grill and it was fantastic! They had a great Dairy and Gluten free option for my wife and the sword fish was some of the best fish i have ever tasted! We aee definitely hoping to return later this week for dessert!

Such an awesome restaurant here in Kona. They have great food and great service. My family and I eat here all the time. They have great specials everyday but if you want something off the regular menu, you can't go wrong. The Kalbi is amazing. My kids say they make the best Loco Moco, and they have the BEST MUD PIE in hawaii. Make sure you leave room for the mud pie!

We ordered food to go and they forgot the tarter sauce for the shrimp along forgetting the katsu sauce. The food was very tasty.

Service was excellent. We had a waitress that was attentive and funny. I had the loco moco-3 meat. So so good. Gravy was yummy. My partner had the combo plate with teriyaki beef and fried shrimp. He thought it was delicious. We will have to come back for the mud pie since the servings are quite large.

Our favorite place on the island. The staff is super friendly and the good is really good. Even in the midst of the current crisis, they are accommodating. I would ask you to please patronize the small, non-chain restaurants. Mahalo.

We ate here for breakfast and lunch. The food was good and the portions plentiful. Really liked the servers. One of our party ordered steak & eggs. The steak was a little fatty. We didn't complain but once the server noticed, she took it off the bill and asked if we wanted anything else.
